The Puerto Vallarta International Airport is preparing for an exciting future with the construction of a second terminal and sustainable growth in its facilities. During the first nine months of 2023, the airport has seen an impressive 12 percent increase in passenger traffic and added four new routes.
According to data revealed at the Advisory Committee’s 2023 annual session, which took place early last month, the airport has welcomed more than 5 million passengers this year, representing an increase of 11 percent of international travelers and 13 percent of domestic visitors which compared year-over-year to 2022.
This year has been especially notable for Puerto Vallarta Airport with the addition of routes to Guadalajara, Los Angeles, Mexicali and Culiacán.
Of other important note, through an investment period spanning from 2020 to 2024, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) is allocating a total of 6,407,000,000 pesos for the expansion of the terminal. This ambitious project includes the expansion of the commercial platform, the remodeling of toilet facilities, the installation of Autonomous Migratory Filters (FMA), and the creation of the first terminal which will meet the certifications as a sustainable building in Mexico.
In 2023, 2,172,000,000 pesos have been invested, and an additional 2,019,000,000 pesos are projected to be allocated in 2024 to continue with this important work.
“The growth is exponential and will have a positive impact on the travel experience for our passengers. With the new terminal, we will see a 165 percent increase in the square footage of our facilities, a 60 percent increase in apron area and a 138 percent increase in passenger and baggage screening lines.” —José Amador Lizaldi, director of Puerto Vallarta International Airport.
