A few weeks ago, the Mexican Society of Interior Designers (smimexico.com) celebrated the ninth edition of the International Congress on Architecture and Interior Design at the Fiesta Americana Hotel in Puerto Vallarta. The event gathered over 500 industry professionals and university students from Latin America, Europe and Middle East.

Some of the speakers that presented the latest trends for the industry at the event were architect Albert Fakhoury from Dubai, who was recognized as one of the 50 best designers of the world in 2015; Spanish designer Manuel Torres Acmel, who won the Quatrium Award for Best Interior Designer in 2009; and Mexican architect Elias Kababie, who received the National Interior Design and Career Development Award in 2009 and 2010.

The Eighth Extraordinary General Meeting of ENIDAM Directors (Association of Interior Design Schools in Mexico) and the Inter-University Competition for Interior Design Students were also part of the activities at the event. Architect Julio César Chávez, Mexican Society of Interior Designers president, announced that the tenth anniversary edition of the congress will be held in Guadalajara next year.

“As design and architecture professionals, we are trying to bridge the gap between different countries and I think this congress is a great example of that initiative. The topic of my presentation was related to technology and how to implement the most advanced materials within interior spaces. I have met very creative people here and hope to continue making connections with Mexican professionals.” –Albert Fakhoury, architect and designer from Dubai.
