Adriana Guzmán Jiménez, director of Desarrollo Urbano y Medio Ambiente of Puerto Vallarta, announced the completion and approval of the Programa de Ordenamiento Territorial de la Zona Metropolitana Interestatal Puerto Vallarta y Bahía de Banderas (POTZMI). This ambitious project has already been validated by the governments of Jalisco and Nayarit.
This program aims for the municipalities of Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas to work together in planning territory, mobility, harmonizing regulations, transportation, environment, security, integrated risk management, and tourism promotion.
“The POTZMI is an instrument with a comprehensive and systemic vision of the territory, where complete risk management is considered with a focus on the region’s tourist development. In short, the goal is to prioritize the well-being and improve the quality of life of the residents of this conurbated area,” commented Guzmán.
Daniel Fajardo, undersecretary of Desarrollo Urbano y Vivienda (SEDATU), and Aldo Gil, director of the Dirección General de Ordenamiento Territorial de Jalisco, as well as Luis Michel and Mirtha Villalvazo, then mayors of Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas, respectively, were present during the installation session held in November 2022.
The approval of POTZMI represents a significant milestone for the region, as Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas now have a fundamental tool for their orderly and sustainable development.
