Plaza Papelillo: Sayulita’s New Draw
Less than a year after its opening, December 2015, Plaza Papelillo in Sayulita has become a new and attractive gathering place in Riviera Nayarit’s popular surfing mecca. Its location along Ave. Revolución (Sayulita’s main street) less than two blocks from the main plaza, is ideal for the public and its shop owners, as well. At the same time, this shopping center has yielded excellent results for the positioning of Punta Sayulita, the company behind its creation (puntasayulitamexico.com).
Prior to its opening, Punta Sayulita used its first beach club—located next to Don Pedro’s restaurant—to acquaint potential clients with their residential development. The beachfront location was good, but not easy to find along a dirt road with reduced vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The vision and concept put in place at Plaza Papelillo is ideal to meet Punta Sayulita’s commercial needs, with offices located upfront, next to the sidewalk. “Having offices at this location has helped us a lot, with folks stepping in out of curiosity, and generating at least five potential clients per week, something that didn’t happen before,” commented Jean Paul Delaye, Marketing Manager for the development.
Plaza Papelillo’s street level features several boutiques with clothing and fashion accessories, Mexican crafts and gifts. An intimate outdoor terrace sets the shopping center apart from other commercial spaces along the same street. It is leased by Leda, a new Italian cuisine restaurant/bar that also features a comfortable indoor seating area in the largest commercial space.
The two upper levels were also put to good use by Punta Sayulita by designing Papelillo Lofts: four spacious short-term rental lofts (papelillolofts.com) that combine a hip, industrial design with casual beach living and Mexican details, an ideal option to enjoy an overnight stay in Sayulita.
All these elements combined—excellent location, careful selection of shops and services, and optimal use of all public spaces—make Plaza Papelillo stand out as a successful venture for Punta Sayulita, for the shop owners, and also for the town of Sayulita, with a new commercial space providing new attractions for residents and visitors alike.
